Family of the Year 2010 Risen Christ Council 12854
The Mark Henry family is regarded by the Risen Christ council and members of the Risen Christ Catholic Community as exemplary Catholics. Mark and Martha Henry are looked upon as leaders of people and spiritual leaders. Daughter, Katheryn is following in her parents footsteps. Mark has been a very active Knight for seven years and has served as council treasurer. His ideas and input are revered, usually lending to a productive outcome. Mark was selected as the Risen Christ Religious Education Administrator in 2007 and in a short time implemented changes resulting in better attendance and improved learning. His staff and students revel in his unending enthusiasm. Mark has emphasized prayer and the basic tenets of Catholicism, concepts his students are very receptive to. Mark has involved himself in the following church and diocese-related activities:
- Sings in the choir weekly for 5 years
- greeter, lector, Eucharistic minister for many years
- activities director for the junior high summer camp for 2 years
- prison ministry for five years
- volunteers at his daughter’s school
- works in the “Adopt a Grandparent” program visiting the elderly
- Exhibit Coordinator at the Diocesan Fall Conference
- parish representative for the Treasure Valley Young Adult Ministry 2 yrs.
- Member, Diocese Lay Ecclesial Retreat Planning Committee
- parish council member 3 years
- altar server for many years and is the altar server trainer for the parish
- currently is the co-coordinator for the West Central Deanery Jr. High Rally
- formed a Saturday morning prayer and Bible study group several years ago that is still active today.
Because of Brother Henry’s commitment to his faith and his fellow man Mark received the Bishop’s award for “Outstanding Work in Ministry” from the Diocese of Boise in 2008.
Martha supports Mark, without complaint, wholeheartedly. She is there at church and at home to complement Mark. She helps Mark with the education program and troubleshoots IT problems. She also coordinates the weekly coffees after the Masses and is the evening religious education snack coordinator. She provides support to the Women’s and Children’s Alliance. Even though Martha works full time she still has the energy left to cement the family with the appropriate amount of love and nurturing.
Let’s not forget Katheryn. Katheryn is a regular helper to the administrative staff at Risen Christ parish. She helps her dad with religious education preparations. She contributes as a helper for Vacation Bible School. And she helps without a whimper.
The family of Mark Henry has demonstrated great faith and dedication by their many works. The Risen Christ Community is blessed to have the Henry’s not just because of their great works, but because of the love that emanates from each one of them. It is because of these outstanding attributes that the Risen Christ council hereby nominates the Mark Henry family for Idaho State Family of the Year.
