Corpus Christi

    Corpus Christi Service Center
    525 Americana
    Boise

Corpus Christi House of Boise Idaho comes out of the tradition of Dorothy Day and her Catholic Worker movement and has expanded with participation and support from local churches of various denominations We are an all volunteer 501 (c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to serve the homeless. Our goals in operating this center are threefold.

First - For those who are able, we want to help as many as possible get back on their feet and reintegrated into society.

Second - For those who are unable to rejoin society, we simply want to make their life more healthy and bearable.

Last - we hope that our Corpus Christi center will give to our volunteers an opportunity to have the person to person encounter with the poor in practicing the works of mercy as instructed by our Lord in Matthew 25.

What we do at Corpus Christi House six days a week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. is to provide for the homeless of Boise those services that most of us take for granted. These include:
    • Getting inside out of the weather to warm up or to cool down
    • Using a bathroom
    • Having a place to sit, read, visit, recreate, without being hassled
    • Taking a shower or just brushing their teeth
    • Washing clothes
    • Storing personal belongings
    • Receiving a message (maybe from a potential employer)
    • Using a telephone for local calls
    • Checking out employment opportunities
    • Getting advice from others
    • Developing friends and acquaintances

There are no paid employees at Corpus Christi House. We are an all volunteer community and are always looking for volunteers to join our ministry.

There are many levels of involvement that are opened to a volunteer at Corpus Christi House. If you are interested in joining us the following is a list of ways to do so.

HOUSE VOLUNTEER - You would be one of three persons who work at CCH either on the morning shift between 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon or the after noon shift from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. one day each week. CCH is open Monday through Saturday all year round.

SUBSTITUTE HOUSE VOLUNTEER - You would be on a list of substitute volunteers who would be available when a regular volunteer is unable to be at CCH due to sickness, business, or vacation time. Our policy that would restrict all house volunteers to one shift a week would include the house volunteer substitutes as well. If you are interested in serving the homeless in either of these two volunteer positions you can contact Ken Marchetti at 853 6280 or schetti@cableone,net

MENTOR VOLUNTEERS - A mentor volunteer works one on one with one of our guests. This volunteer opportunity would be very much like being a big brother/sister to one of our guests. While it’s immediate purpose is to help the guest to make appointments and arrive at these appointments on time, being a friend who encourages and motivates the guest is also an important aspect of this job. This would involve a long commitment to one person until that person no longer needs a helping hand. If you are interested in being a mentor you can contact Melaney Swenson at 345 6031 or mswenson@ccidaho.org.

AUXILIARY VOLUNTEER - At CCH there are many opportunities to help the ministry while not dealing with our guests. Duties like writing thank you letters, fund raising, helping with the newsletter or web site or postal mailings, collecting clothing or hygiene items are just a few that come to mind. Having a list of volunteers who could be called upon at times to help with these important tasks is a luxury that we do not now enjoy. This volunteer opportunity is an important way for those people who have committed their time to other ministries but still want to be a part of Corpus Christi House Our auxiliary coordinator is Marydee Gutierrez at 368 0516 or mdg412@rmci.net

If you see yourself in any of the above roles you can contact Those people mentioned above. We would love to have you join our Corpus Christi family.

    Peace,
    Corpus Christi House Volunteers.
